What You’ll Learn: Cybersecurity Track for Veterans
Cybersecurity Training for Veterans
Centriq’s Cybersecurity Specialist Program (CSSP) is our most popular path for transitioning veterans. This track helps you build a foundation in computer hardware and software, networking, Microsoft Active Directory, and Azure cloud, before then moving into security, training toward your CompTIA Security+ certification and the fundamentals of protecting networks and devices.
It is offered in-person in Kansas City and online.

A lot of veterans start by searching for a coding bootcamp. What’s the difference between a bootcamp and an IT school like Centriq?
Coding bootcamps have a narrower focus. You can learn a lot about writing code, but the broader foundation that employers often look for is missing.
IT schools, especially Centriq, are connected to hiring networks and have proven placement rates in IT jobs for veterans.
Coding bootcamps usually don’t provide training on the soft skills needed to make the transition from military to civilian life within the workplace, which can often leave veterans feeling like they are missing an important part of the puzzle.

A career in IT offers a tried and true path for veterans looking at a transition into the civilian workforce. IT, coding, and cybersecurity jobs for veterans often begin with a role in client support or a help desk role before moving into more specialized positions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Veteran IT Training
Can I use my GI Bill® for IT training at Centriq?
Yes. Centriq’s IT training is eligible for both the Montgomery and Post-9/11 GI Bill®, and our dedicated VA support team helps you apply your benefits and complete the paperwork.
What if I have used up my GI Bill® benefits?
You may still have options. Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E, Chapter 31) can cover training for eligible veterans, and VET TEC 2.0 may be available to help fund short-term tech training for qualified veterans, including some who still have GI Bill® entitlement remaining and some who have already exhausted it. Our team can help you review your eligibility and next steps.
How long does the program take?
Most veterans complete their IT training in about four months. Day and evening cohorts are available so you can train around work and family.
Do I need IT experience to start a Centriq program?
No. Our programs start from the foundation and are designed for veterans changing careers. The focus is essential technology skills only — no history, no biology, just technology.
Is Centriq’s IT training in person or online?
Both. You can train in person at our Kansas City campus or attend live online, instructor-led classes with the same cohort structure. For VET TEC 2.0 funding, training needs to be done in-person at our Kansas City campus.
What IT certifications will I prepare for from Centriq?
In the Cybersecurity Specialist Program, you build networking and systems fundamentals while preparing for the CompTIA Security+, SC-900: Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals, and AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certifications. Your advisor can walk you through the full certification path for the program.
Should I choose a coding bootcamp or an IT school as a military veteran?
For most transitioning veterans, a structured, instructor-led IT school leads to a job faster because it covers the broader IT foundation employers hire for and includes local placement support.
What IT jobs can veterans get after completing Centriq’s program?
