Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides on-demand computing resources and services in the cloud, with pay-as-you-go pricing. For example, you can run a server on AWS that you can log on to, configure, secure, and run just as you would a server that’s sitting in front of you.

Using AWS resources instead of your own is like purchasing electricity from a power company instead of running your own generator, and it provides many of the same benefits: capacity exactly matches your need, you pay only for what you use, economies of scale result in lower costs, and the service is provided by a vendor experienced in running large-scale networks.

What Can I Do with AWS?

You can use AWS to make it easier to build and manage your websites and applications. The following are some common uses for AWS:

  • Store public or private data.
  • Host a static website. These websites use client-side technologies (such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) to display content that doesn’t change frequently. A static website doesn’t require server-side technologies (such as PHP and ASP.NET).
  • Host a dynamic website, or web app. These websites include classic three-tier applications, with web, application, and database tiers.
  • Support students or online training programs.
  • Process business and scientific data.
  • Handle peak loads.

Microsoft Azure is Microsoft’s application platform for the public cloud. The goal of this article is to give you a foundation for understanding the fundamentals of Azure, even if you don’t know anything about cloud computing.

The Components of Azure
Azure groups services into categories in the Management Portal and on various visual aids. The Management Portal is what you use to manage most services in Azure.

During the seminar, we will use a different organization to talk about services based on similar function, and to call out important sub-services that a part of larger ones.

Microsoft has invested heavily in Windows Azure over the past few years. Six data centers across three continents have been developed to serve millions of customers. They have been built with an optimized power efficiency mechanism, self-cooling containers, and hardware homogeneity, which differentiates them from other data centers.

Snacks and beverages will be provided courtesy of Centriq Training. We hope 1 ??? 2 members of a company’s IT and/or management team will be able to attend.

KC .NET User Group – July 2016

Event Date(s): Jul 26, 2016

Building your First IoT Project (Adam Barney)

What: KC .NET User Group July 2016 Meeting
When: Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from  to

Where: VinSolutions, 5700 Broadmoor Street, Mission, KS (map)
9th Floor, park in front or on top (uncovered) deck of covered parking garage.

  • Building your First IoT Project??

So you’ve written hello world (blinked an LED) a hundred times with your Raspberry Pi or other IoT device, you’ve read books and endless blog posts, been super excited about projects you’ve seen on Instructables or Hackster.io, but still don’t have the confidence to jump in and make your first REAL IoT project. We’ll go over some ideas for good starter projects, and build one from start to finish!

    Speaker: Adam Barney (@cabarney)

Adam is a nerd. That kept me humble and nearly friendless (*sniff*) through school, but I wear it as a badge of honor now. After buying a Commodore 64 with money from his paper route in the 4th grade, he’s never stopped learning about computers and how to make these stupid machines do cool things. I am a Microsoft C# MVP and ASP Insider, running my independent consulting company from my home in Lincoln, NE. In my spare time, I run a user group and a couple developer conferences, and generally take on way more work than I have time for. I can also be found speaking at many mid-west user groups, code camps and developer conferences.
