Bio

“I started working for Southwest Airlines in 2006 as a Customer Service Agent in Kansas City and worked there for almost 8 years. In 2013, Amber Rothermel approached me about a job opportunity as the team manager for her real estate group. I was excited to change career paths and explore something new. After a year in that role I decided to take a position as the lead buyer’s agent on the team and help train the new team manager. These different work experiences have given me the ability to function as a team player, as well as demonstrate a proven ability to work well independently. I’ve learned time management, excellent communication skills, flexibility, problem solving, and how to work in a fast-paced environment that is constantly changing. I have enjoyed both career paths I have taken so far, but I am eager to finish my training at Centriq and become a full stack developer.

Q&A

Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: My excitement for coding came when our real estate team paid to have our website built by a company. We had very little admin functionality and I wanted to be able to get behind the scenes of the website. I decided to change career paths and come to Centriq to learn exactly that. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning something new every single day. I’m excited to jump into the development world with my newly acquired skills!

Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: I enjoyed learning MVC and seeing everything tie together from database, to C#, to front end. Near the end we briefly touched on other languages that I am excited to explore further.

Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: After Centriq I would like to work for a company developing applications and really expand my knowledge of languages. Being new to development and seeing all of the directions your career can go I am not sure how that is going to look for me, but I am excited to start and find out!

Q: What other interests do you have?
A: I enjoy watching the Royals, Sporting KC and the Chiefs. While they are not playing I like to go to the movies, try a new restaurant, play video games and biking. I always love spending time with my niece and nephew as well.
