Featured IT Administrator Student for June 2017
“Originally from Kansas City, I joined the Army at a young age. In my time in the military, I worked in Air Defense maintaining Sentinel Radars and sending live air data to all respective ranks. My thought was that I could be patriotic and still secure a career after leaving the military. After leaving and taking a few jobs to assimilate to the civilian world, I decided to use the technical skills gained in the military and join the I.T. industry. Working my way up throughout the years, from Tier 1 Help Desk to Tier 3, I currently work as a Jr Systems Administrator for the infrastructure team at a local company, maintaining the back-end appliances.“
Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: I wanted to get a solid base on my fundamentals on the technologies offered and get some certifications to get me started on a specific track to advance my career in the industry.
Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: So far, I think Cisco was my favorite and once we settle into our project I plan on using the Cisco room to practice. PowerShell was also a really great intro to help build my scripting skill set. I’m also excited about further enhancing my skill set with the upcoming Linux class.
Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A: I hope to dive deeper into server infrastructure and network security. Further into my career, I would like to take on additional responsibilities utilizing the leadership skills I learned in the military to earn a management position or consulting opportunities.
Q: What other interests do you have?
A: I really enjoy movies, music and sound. I am an audiophile and occasionally, I help with the sound and sound fx for local short film makers. I also play the guitar and am working on the piano. I like being outside and have a passion for grilling and cooking.
