I am a native Kansan, Army combat veteran, former federal civilian employee, wife and a mother of two adorable children. My formal education and most of my federal employment experience are in law enforcement. At my last federal job, I was the go-to person for IT-related issues in the absence of an onsite IT technician. I enjoyed the challenge so much that I am pursuing a career overhaul through Centriq in Systems and Security Administration.
I worked in the financial services industry for 25 years, the first 5 in customer service and the next 20 years as a software developer, always learning new skills and training others. During those 25 years a lot has changed for me, I am married have three kids, one at KU, one at Blue Valley High School, and one at Prairie Star Middle School.
For the past 20+ years, I was a mainframe developer in the financial services industry. After 9/11, I took military leave to serve in the Army and was deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom. When my life as an infantryman ended, I returned to the life of a mainframe programmer. After a while, I grew restless for a new challenge so I decided to grow my coding skill set by learning newer technologies. Now I’m working on that goal at Centriq and enjoying the experience.

I am a U.S. Army Veteran interested in continuing my career focus of Information Technology, Desktop support, Help Desk Technician, into my civilian life. I am eager to continue my education and better myself to excel in my field. I am currently a student at Centriq Training enrolled in the Systems and Security career track, where I will obtain CompTIA’s A+, Network+, Security+, and Microsoft Server Administration Fundamentals certifications. The reason why I chose IT is because I love the mind bobbling puzzles that comes with troubleshooting issues. More importantly the great feeling you have after solving the problem at hand, from those “My computer just won’t turn on”, all the way to full on outages.
I grew up in Pleasant Hill, Missouri until the age of 18 where I joined the United States Army. In the Army I specialized as a Network and System Administrator. The Military gave me awesome opportunities to live in and visit countries such as Ireland, Korea, and Japan. I worked as a Network Administrator after the Military for two years, but was ready for something new and challenging.
At a young age I loved to take things apart to see how they work. From old stereos to the first computer that I opened, the technology amazed me which lead me to focus on STEM classes through my education. When I moved to a workplace environment I always had jobs that were customer facing and technical such as drafting and manufacturing eyeglass lenses. After having careers like these I realized that a career in IT would be the perfect match for me.
I grew up in Wichita, Kansas, spending my late teens and early twenties in Lawrence, Kansas. After spending some time in beautiful Monterey, California, I lived in Brooklyn, New York for 6 years before moving back to the Kansas City area where I’ve happily resided since 2011. Along the way I taught myself HTML and CSS to be able to make websites for friends working in the creative world. I’ve always enjoyed the challenges posed by teaching myself things and I try to embody the DIY spirit. Though I do find that nothing is better than working with a team.
I come from a background in retail, fast food, loss prevention, and mobile repair. I also love helping people and animals, so I did some volunteer work as a roofer for habitats for humanity, and a janitor at a pet shelter. I consider myself a lifetime learner, and have taken several courses on various subjects that catch my interest like: music theory and performance, Stagecraft, policing with a focus on homicide investigation, and Geology (I like shiny rocks what can I say).
I have worked the last several years in Customer Service. During this time I’ve developed a lot of really good skills, such as active listening, working in a fast paced environment, and speaking and explaining things clearly. I also started my own side business at the beginning of the year making and selling paper art. This has taught me a lot of skills as well like organizing, prioritizing, and planning work. Aside from work and running a business and I am a partner to my wonderful Fiancé, Jake, and a Mother to my awesome 3-year-old, Lincoln.
