Before I started I was working as a general laborer for BGS Inc (a private contractor firm). I was the general handyman, painted, roofing, demolition, hang light fixtures, rip up carpet, plumbing, etc. It paid the bills, but I disliked every minute of it. I finally decided that I had to do something...and the next day, I saw a billboard saying "Do you make $40k a year? Our graduates do!!" I signed up immediately. During my schooling, I got a job for the State of Kansas in Topeka as a mailroom clerk. I secured an interview with Kansas Children and Family Services, , and then got offered a job as a Level 1 Technology Support Technician. My last class was on a Thursday, and my job started 4 days later on Monday. Ten months after graduation, I could say "I graduated, and I make $40k a year". I have now been promoted up three positions and six pay grades. Less than a year ago I was working as a temp, sorting mail for $8 an hour. No paid holidays, benefits, or paid time off. Now I have full benefits, pay $24 a month for full health insurance, 10 paid holidays a year, 2 weeks of sick and 2 weeks of vacation time a year, and a salary of over $40k a year.....and I owe it all to Centriq!!!! Taking classes there was the best choice I have ever made!!
Before Centriq, I was an assistant manager at Quik Trip. I wanted to break into the IT industry. Now I work for one of the top 15 resellers of Cisco equipment in the US!
I spent the last couple of years picking up seasonal positions. I was starting a family and needed something with high growth potential and financial potential. At Centriq, I loved the small class sizes. Each student was able to get the attention they needed to make sure the material was understood in a real sense… not simply giving us enough to pass our tests. All the staff members from Student/Career Services to the Instructors are genuinely focused on the student’s success both while training and entering the job market. I was able to build the foundation of a strong, valuable skill set and accept a generous offer for a position within a growing and progressive local development team. It is a wonderful feeling to genuinely enjoy what I do for a living and to know that it is only the first of many open doors in the future.
