Q&A

Q: Why did you decide to come to Centriq?
A: I had a decision to make on whether I was going to continue in the ambulance career or to pursue another career. After researching IT and EMS I landed on IT as my future. One day I was driving listening to the Rock and a commercial for the TechSmart KC program came across the air. I thought to myself “4 months and I could be working in IT? I have to check this out.” After reviewing it I set up an interview with Russ and found out much more about Centriq and the career track. I scored highly on the competency exam and it was suggested to me to do the programming track. I then asked about the cost of the schooling since that info wasn't readily available. My eyes widened when I saw that it was approximately half of what other schools I was looking at were asking. After that interview I knew that this was the school for me not only for my schooling needs but for my situational needs.

Q: What class has been your favorite so far?
A: Overall I find anything with coding is interesting to me. It really is like learning a new language to speak. Whether its HTML, CSS, C# or SQL it intrigues me. All the different ways to manipulate what you are trying to do and then work it down to make it faster while keeping it user friendly is like a puzzle. Having been in the EMS field for 8+ years now and having been a gamer for all of my life that I can remember I find that problem solving is something I do well and enjoy greatly. Coding provides this on another level that I really hadn't experienced before.

Q: What do you hope to do after Centriq?
A:I still am open to anything when it comes to finding a job but I see myself pursuing something in regards to trouble shooting and fixing anything that is broken in code. Since my greatest strength is my problem solving this would definitely be a good fit for me. As far as personal things I know that our class, Wild Goose Labs as we call ourselves, might be continuing to work together on the side. Since I believe we're a great group of guys that work well together I believe that it should be an interesting venture. On my own however I want to look further into XNA which was released by Microsoft to help with game development process. XNA uses C# and I’ve already tooled around with it some finding it to be relatively easy now that I know C#.

Q: What other interests do you have?
A:My biggest hobby has always been gaming. The amount of thinking and problem solving along with the competitiveness of gaming has always been something that I loved. Besides that I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Having a rambunctious 2 year old daughter with another on the way has always been a challenge. One other hobby I have is following pro football. I grew up a Denver Broncos fan and then became a saints fan several years ago. All in all I'd say I’m more of a fan of pro football as apposed to a fan of any one team.
